In order to really reach kids, you need to speak their language. Beyond words, it's a language of emotion and intuition often effectively spoken through music. Sam Moran certainly knows how to entertain, engage, and empathize with children. He does so, not only from the perspective of an award-winning artist, but also as a father and always as a proud kid at heart. The ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, singer, songwriter, actor, and performer delivers an uplifting, yet fun message on a series of 2023 singles and his forthcoming debut for Republic Records: Kids & Family.

"In many ways, these are straightforward pop songs with lyrics from a child's point-of-view," he says. "I don't infantilize myself or pretend to be a child, but I make sure I'm talking to them on their level — instead of speaking down to them or 'teaching.' I'm acknowledging how they feel and helping explain it through music."

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Sam devoted his entire life to music. While studying Music Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Classical Voice major, a serendipitous turn of events led to an audition for The Wiggles. He joined the collective in 1998 as a full-time standby and by 2006, had become their lead singer; the "Yellow Wiggle." His discography with the group spanned 10 albums and 13 DVDs in addition to various specials and the TV series — The Wiggles, Wiggle and Learn, and The Wiggles: Wiggly TV. Touching down on multiple continents, he performed 18 sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden with The Wiggles. During this time, he also impressively garnered five ARIA Awards and earned a spot in the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2011.

Stepping out solo, he starred, hosted, and produced four seasons of Play Along With Sam on Nickelodeon Australia accompanied by a string of original solo albums. 2015 saw him snag his first solo ARIA Award in the category of "Best Children's Album" for Play Along With Sam: Boo!

In 2022, Republic Records Kids & Family reached out, and Sam traveled to Los Angeles for a series of sessions.

"In terms of the music, we really found our own space," he goes on. "Usually, pop stars might age down to appeal to kids with animated movie soundtracks and other collaborations. We want to play in the middle of the field."

The single "Biddy Bom" [feat. Qai Qai] introduces Sam's vision. On the track, a head-nodding bass line thumps through a breezy beat punctuated by handclaps and fluttering melodies. It culminates on what Sam fittingly calls, "a mantra," as the hook promises, "When you feel like you're all alone, you'll be alright."

"Coming out of the Pandemic, I was reading all of these reports on children feeling isolated and not being able to recognize or describe these emotions," he recalls. "'Biddy Bom' is about anxiety and loneliness. The fact that kids who are six- or seven-years-old are struggling with their emotional development and feel alone at all — took me on an emotional rollercoaster. It made me realize how important it is to share an empowering message. It's a positive affirmation for kids to sing to themselves to get through tough moments." Ultimately, Sam ushers in another era of children's music now.

"I want children to listen to this music and feel like they have not only been seen and heard, but also that others are experiencing the same things they are," he leaves off. "I'm trying to speak to them on their level and give them a voice, rather than just teaching them."
