about the artist

Since the release of Anxious' debut album Little Green House in 2022, the band hasn't spent much time at home, but their world has been ever-growing. Anxious has kept busy over the last two years, opening for legacy acts like Thrice and Bayside as well as scene staples The Wonder Years and Knuckle Puck — all with some hardcore fests in between. That busy schedule has meant Anxious has barely had a moment to stop and catch its breath. But that frantic pace also inspired them to keep on pushing forward. "Down, Down" is the band's latest ultra-catchy, singalong single that merges the band's hardcore energy and ethos with their knack for earworm choruses bursting at the seams with melody.

Like the pair of singles "Sunsign" and "Where You Been" that Anxious gave us following the release of Little Green House, "Down, Down" furthers the ambitious sound Anxious has been working on developing alongside producer & collaborator Brett Romnes (Taking Back Sunday, The Movie Life, Oso Oso). "Down, Down" showcases the band's seamless combination of hardcore grit, classic emo dynamis, and 90's alternative hooks. The song deals with the toll of a life lived on the road, weighing the effects of the band's constant touring schedule and feeling, as vocalist Grady Allen puts it, "lost under the green light" of the stage. The track is further heightened by the music video the band made with director Derek Rathbun — an imaginative visual that pictures the band as drawings imagined by a child with a magic coloring book.

The urgency that carried Little Green House is still a staple of these latest songs, but it's presented in new, engaging ways. Guitarist Dante Mellucci's distorted riffs have a sprawl to them that feels like a marked evolution of the band's sound, filled out by bassist Sam Allen's energetic bass lines and the expert drumming of Jonny Camner. But above all else, "Down, Down" feels as earnest as any Anxious song to come before it: "We've gotten a lot of questions around Little Green House if there were conscious efforts to do certain things, and the answer is no, there was no conscious effort ever to create a sound, replicate a sound, any of that," says Anxious vocalist Grady Allen, "It was just us trying to create something that we felt was wholeheartedly something we wanted to do. And I think that energy was consistent with us putting these songs together."

While Anxious prepares to return to the studio to write their second full-length album, they feel as driven as ever. Following a fall tour supporting the Wonder Years the band hit the road again with friends One Step Closer and Koyo for a three-way headlining tour across the country. Time and time again Anxious has considered their career with an ethos that feels pulled from another time — always working to craft an intimate world with their songs that feels special to listen to.
